«The inspiration for Quilla comes from my interest in Inca mythology. One of the most important deities is ‘Mama Quilla’, goddess of the Moon, whose person/moon duality I wanted to depict and reinterpret by giving it a form that is at once slightly anthropomorphic (body, shoulders, head) and ‘astronomical’ (a lunar disc in the sky, overlooking the Earth).»
